Synthesia turns on Syren for everyone, with a 1,000 to 2,000 credit range and a $5 claim it has not priced
Synthesia's own launch page puts a typical two-minute Syren video with two rounds of edits at 1,000 to 2,000 credits, while the CEO's pitch is agency video for about five dollars.
Synthesia switched on Syren for every account on October 9, and the number travelling furthest with it is the one the company has not shown its working for. Chief executive Victor Riparbelli's launch post promised "$20K agency videos for $5 in 5 mins". The figures Synthesia actually publishes are denominated in credits, not dollars: its Syren page states that a two-minute video with up to two rounds of edits typically uses 1,000 to 2,000 credits, and that actual usage depends on length, complexity and how much you refine the result.
Syren builds videos through an agent and a renderer, not a diffusion video model
Synthesia describes Syren as a new way to create videos in which you describe what you want and an agent builds it, showing a live preview as it works, with refinement happening through chat rather than scene-by-scene editing. You can attach documents, images, videos and PowerPoint files to the prompt. Videos run up to three minutes, and if you start from scratch you pick either wide 16:9 or tall 9:16 before sending the prompt; starting from an example video removes that choice. The feature is labelled beta, with a note telling users to review avatars and audio before sharing.
The launch page calls Syren "the first video engine that learns from your existing video library", with Brand Kits capturing colours, typography, graphic style and editing rhythm from uploaded footage. What produces the final frames is a renderer rather than a generative video model: Riparbelli's own launch posts credit Opus 5.5 plus a Synthesia renderer with 3D support, and Synthesia's developer documentation already listed SyRen as the generator behind motion graphics in the AI Playground, with no model selector, while third-party generative models sit behind the video and image options. That is closer in shape to HeyGen's HyperFrames approach than to a text-to-video model, and it explains why the output is described in terms of motion graphics, avatars and voiceover rather than shots.
The launch credits are Syren-only and expire on November 9
Synthesia gave each user 2,000 Syren credits on October 9. Those credits work only in Syren, cannot be shared between accounts, exchanged or redeemed, and expire at 23:59 BST on November 9, 2026. After they run out or lapse, Syren draws on the standard credits in the account. The Syren page frames the same grant as enough for one free video, subject to fair usage caps, with a watermark on the free plan.
Access varies by plan. Basic users get watermarked videos with download and sharing enabled for the first two weeks. Starter and Pro users get no watermark and can download and share. Enterprise organisations have it available to every account with a full license, and admins can turn Syren off entirely.
Nothing published converts credits into the five dollars
Set the two published numbers side by side and the gap is obvious. A typical two-minute video consumes 1,000 to 2,000 credits, and the launch grant is 2,000 credits, which is consistent with the one-free-video framing. What is missing is the rate at which credits are sold on each plan, which is what any check of the $5 claim would need. Synthesia has also published no comparative quality measurement for Syren output, no brand-match accuracy figure, and no evaluation of how often an on-brand video comes back actually on brand. The "agency-quality" description is the company's own, scored by the company, against a $20,000 reference project that nobody outside Synthesia has seen the brief for.
